A well painted Russian Icon of Christ Pantocrator. Pantocrator translates to almighty or all-powerful from the Greek words for all and strength. Christ Pantocrator was one of the first images of Christ developed in the early Christian church and remains a central icon of the Eastern Orthodox Church. In the half length image, Christ holds the orb in his left hand and makes a gesture of blessing with his right. Tempera on board. Russian late 18th century.
