Saint Vincent Ferrer ( 1350 – 1419 ), was a Valencian Dominican friar. He was ordained a Catholic priest in Barcelona and earned a doctorate in theology. He travelled the length and breadth of Europe preaching to and converting untold thousands, counselling kings and potentates, and embroiled in the controversies of the day. Vincent is said to have been responsible for the conversion of many Jews to Catholicism, often by questionable means. The flame atop his head refers to Vincent’s fervent preaching that the Last Judgment was nigh.
